Most of the roulette players think that the betting system they are using is the most important part for a successful roulette play in the long run.
The betting system is important, indeed, but it's not the most important part.

What is bankroll management ?

Bankroll management includes two aspects : the session bankroll and the monthly bankroll.

A. The session bankroll.

It means that you have to know in advance ( before you start a playing session ) how much money you want to win ( that is your wingoal )

You have to define your wingoal in d o l l a r s ( or euros or whatever currency you are using ), because
this amount determines your bankroll for the session.

Your bankroll should be five times your win goal.

Example : if you are satisfied with a winning of 10.- dollars, you should have 50.- dollars to start your session.
If you want to win 50.- $, you must have 250.- $ to start your session.
If you don't have 250.- $, then you have to wait until you have 250.- $ which you don't need for other things.

DO NOT EXPECT TO MAKE 100, 500 OR 1000 DOLLARS OUT OF 50 !!!!!
This can happen occasionally, but in the long run you are going to lose. 

One of the biggest mistakes the average roulette player does when he sits down at a roulette table is to think that he can multiply
his bankroll. That isn't realistic. You should expect to win between 10 and 20 % of your bankroll.
If 20% of your session bankroll is not enough dollars for you, then you have to wait until you are able to increase your bankroll.
Do not increase the expected winning percentage.
If you want to win more, than you have to bring more !!

What about the loss limit ? The loss limit is your session bankroll.
Be careful about the following. If you put 200.- $ in your account in an online casino for example and start a session,
you must determine in advance the amount of your bankroll for that session, let's say 50.- $
If you have won 10.- $ or lost 50.- $, YOU MUST TAKE A BREAK.
Switch off your computer if you are playing in an online casino. ONE CLICK. It's easy.

* If you have lost your bankroll ( you lost 50.- $, but you still have 150.- $ in your account ) :
You have to forget about the numbers that came up and that you didn't hit, and most of all, about the money that is gone.
Don't chase your dollars. If you take a break ( read a few lines in the newspaper, have a beer, walk a few hundred meters in the fresh air ),
you'll be able to clear up your mind and start a new session with a different state of mind later.

* If you have reached your win goal :
Don't get greedy. Don't think that you are going to win again and again and again.
Some people say : if you are hot, you are hot. This might be true occasionally, but in the long run,
this attitude is going to make you lose your money.

Important : If you are not able to stop after you have reached a predefined win goal, the following will happen to you more often than you  think : you place another bet and you lose. THEN, you want to come back to your win goal and you continue playing, but on the next spin you lose again. And now, a VERY, VERY dangerous chase begins: you are chasing your dollars ! You may lose your whole win for that session and you start getting frustrated ( because you HAD won before ). AND THEN you come to the most crucial point of gambling : you don't care about the rules anymore and start betting big because you want to get your money back. You get more and more nervous and finally, you loose all your winnings ( there will be days where you lose everything that you had won over days and even weeks, in ONE SESSION ).

Depending on the size of your bankroll, you may do the following if you absolutely want to take advantage of those rare lucky streaks.
Let's say, you have a session bankroll of 200.- $. After a certain time of play, you have won 40.- $, so you have reached your wingoal.
If you think that luck is on your side, you may continue to play, but don't lose more than 25% of your winnings, what is 10.- $
If you continue to win, let's say, you win another 40 dollars ( total winning amount is now 80.- $ ), you must not lose more than 20.- $.
If you do, TAKE A BREAK.

One more example :
Starting bankroll : 500.- $
Wingoal is reached at  +100.- $. From now on, your winnings must not drop below 75.- $. You continue to play and win. 
You reach  +150.- $. From now on, your winnings must not drop below 112,5.- $. You continue to play and win.
You reach  + 200.- $. From now on, your winnings must not drop below 150.- $. You continue to play and lose.
You reach  + 150.- $.
STOP PLAYING AND TAKE A BREAK !!!!!!!!!!

One more thing :

 If it happens that you lose your bankroll twice in a row on a given day, then stop playing for that day.  

Although money management and betting systems are very
important factors for a successful roulette play, luck and bad luck are always in play too.
Life goes in cycles, and if on a given day, you are not lucky, than you can't do anything about it.

B. The monthly bankroll .

Before you start playing roulette, you need to know how much money you can put at risk per month. 
This has to be money that you don't need for other things.

If your monthly income is low, then try to save each month a little amount until you have, let's say, at least 100.- $ to give it a try.
Should you lose those 100.- $, you have to wait again until you have saved another 100.- $ that you don't need for other things.

Once you have your starting bankroll for the month, you need to make up a monthly plan :

Know exactly how much money you want to invest in roulette per month.
Take that amount of money on the day you get your payroll.

As an example, let's say, you have 200.- $ / month that you are willing to put at risk with roulette.
You decide to break that amount in 4 session bankrolls. This means that you must never lose more than 50.- $ per session.

* If you lose the 200.- $, then you have to wait until the next payday. For that period of time, concentrate your efforts on other things.

* If you win, do the following :
-  each time you have won 50% of your monthly bankroll, cash in 50% of the winnings
( example for the 200.- $ monthly bankroll : 
You reach  + 300.- $ ;  winning amount = 100.- $
Cash in 50.- $ )
You are not allowed to use that money for roulette again, never !!!!!

- if the month is over and you still have money, you may have 2 different situations : you have a net win or a net loss.
Whatever your situation, add another 200.- dollars from your payroll, break your new monthly bankroll into session bankrolls and continue to work with that amount.

Example : 
a. At the end of the month, you have left 120.- $. You add another 200.- $. Your new bankroll is now 320.- $.
You break those 320.- $ into 4 session bankrolls of 80.- $ and follow the rules exposed above under A. 

b. At the end of the month, you have 260.- $ ( example : you reached  + 300.- $ after two weeks work ; you cashed in 50.- $. You continued with 250.- $. 
You reached 350.- $. Again you won 100.- $ what is 50% of your monthly bankroll. You cashed in 50.- $. 
You continued with 300.- $ and you finished your month with 260.- $. 
It's payday. You add 200.- $ to your bankroll and start the next month with 460.- $. 
Break them in 4 session bankrolls and continue to work with that amount. 
And don't forget that you have put away 100.- $ and that you are not allowed to use that money for roulette again, NEVER !!

The fact that you have a plan and the discipline to stick to it will give you a great satisfaction and a very good feeling.
And even if it happens that you have to finish a month with a net loss, you still will not feel very unhappy,
because you have used money that you don't need for other things.

Final note:

Be very careful when you decide to open an account with an online casino. Most of the online casinos give you a decent
bonus when you make a deposit. Then, when you have reached your session wingoal and you want to withdraw your winnings, you
get a message saying that you have not wagered enough money. For example, they don't allow you to withdraw your
winnings until you have wagered at leat 20 times the amount of the bonus you got when making your deposit ( if you deposited 100.- $ 
and  they gave you 100.- $ bonus, you must have wagered at least 2000.- $ before you may withdraw any money. 
They don't even allow you to withdraw back your own 100.- $ 
They force you to continue playing !
